Over the past two months, Trisco Systems has been competing with Webb Insurance in a Biggest Loser contest in order to improve the health and wellness in their workplaces. Working with WCORHA has resulted in many positive changes at Trisco, as they participate frequently in wellness challenges within their own office.
The competition started with a challenge from Trisco to Webb Ins. for a Biggest Loser Contest. It would be an 8 week weight loss contest. It would run from February 8th, 2016 to April 4th, 2016 and we would weigh in every two weeks. The weigh ins were overseen by Katie Sarno of WCORHA and were based upon percentages lost, not pounds.
Webb Insurance had 28 participants weighing in at 4989 pounds and Trisco had 18 participants weighing in around 3749.9 pounds.
Week 2 – Webb Insurance had lost 1.10% and Trisco had lost 1.08%. (very close race)
Week 4 – Webb insurance had lost 1.72% total and Trisco had lost 1.55% total (still a close race)
Week 6 – Webb Insurance had lost 1.62% total and Trisco had lost 1.66% total. (Trisco takes the lead, while Webb had a setback).
Week 8 (Final results) – Webb Insurance had lost a total of 2.59% and Trisco lost a total of 1.80%. (Webb recovers and wins the competition)
During the competition, there were some “encouragement” sent to each company. Webb sent Trisco a basket of goodies. Trisco retaliated with a donut cake. Webb sent an Easter candy bouquet and Trisco sent Webb an encouragement board. This “encouragement” board had cute sayings and “treats” on it. Webb sent them a sucker bouquet with our agency picture and cute phrases. Then, Trisco sent Webb fruit and vegetables in donut boxes for April Fool’s Day.
Overall, there was a total of 196.5 pounds lost for both companies from beginning to end. We had 46 participants in total. This was a great, fun competition that let us root for everyone in our office instead of against certain people. Trisco was a great sport throughout the whole thing. Employees of both companies encouraged each other through e-mails and some phone conversations.
The “losing losers” have to do the following for the “winning losers”:
- Treat them to a healthy lunch
- Both teams will donate to the winners choice charity
- Post a congratulations on social media and possibly the applause section in the newspaper.
Trisco and Webb Insurance have turned the participation in a wellness program into a fun activity amongst the employees in the offices. Rather than seeing health and wellness as a hassle, Trisco employees see it as a way to have fun competition between employees while also improving their overall health and wellness in order to live a healthier lifestyle.
