Trisco Systems was proud to sponsor and participate in MakerFest 2025, a two-day career exploration event in Lima, Ohio, which connected over 1,600 students with local employers and provided hands-on learning experiences.
Our goal was simple: to show students what a career in the construction and restoration industry really looks like and how rewarding it can be.
Hands-On Experience at the Trisco Booth
Throughout both days, our team set up an interactive booth where students could try out real masonry techniques. Two of our masonry technicians guided students through tuckpointing and decorative stone patching, giving them a true feel for the craftsmanship that goes into restoration work. It’s a little different than “new construction” like bricklaying and carpentry.
Students also got a close look at ornate stones that were removed from a 150-year-old Cathedral that we are currently working on in Kentucky.
While some students worked hands-on, others listened to our senior project managers share what it’s like to build a career in our industry. From union tradesperson positions with immediate benefits, to construction management and corporate positions, there are opportunities for everyone in this field.
At the end of the event, Justin Walter, Sales Manager at Trisco Systems, spoke to the full crowd of students about the benefits of living, working, and growing a career in Lima.
“It’s not what it used to be. We can live, work, and build the community together.”
Why It Matters
Events like MakerFest are about more than recruiting; they’re about building the future of our industry. In our industry specifically, there are estimated to be five people retiring for every one new apprentice. That’s right – a 5:1 ratio of skilled worker shortage.
Trisco Systems is committed to helping the next generation discover their potential, learn real skills, and find pride in the work they do. We need the next generation to rise to the challenge. Good quality of life is not hard to find.
