Make the Most of Your Schedule

Trisco Systems, construction schedulingThere is often the misconception that contractors are like fire fighters, waiting for the next call… able to respond immediately. However, projects are usually scheduled out for weeks or months ahead of time and it is very difficult to respond immediately without causing a major interruption.

Proper construction scheduling is one of the lifelines for a contractor and schedule disruptions impact the entire organization, as well as existing customers whose projects are already scheduled.

Small projects which may only take a few weeks to complete can more easily be added into your contractor’s schedule, as a crew might open up for a week or two in between other large projects. However larger scale projects require more time and pre-planning, as well as coordination between the customer, the contractor, vendors, and material lead times. The time required by these projects is something beyond human control, and it cannot be dismissed for urgency.

It’s not that bad right?… not yet! Not only is the facade of your building your first impression, but it is also your first defense against the weather. Though your structure may be made up of masonry, concrete, or steel, it is far from indestructible. Without good upkeep and proper maintenance, the facade of your building can suffer from everyday wear-and-tear… and if you let defects go too long, the structural integrity can suffer as well. Think of a trip to the dentist’s office for a cleaning and check up.

Preservation, Rehabilitation, Restoration, Reconstruction… What’s the Difference?

So which should you choose? When choosing your treatment choice, you should think about a couple different factors: intended usage, the building’s condition, and it’s historical significance.

Rehabilitation acknowledges the need to alter or add-to a historical property to meet continuing or changing uses while retaining the property’s historic character.

Restoration depicts a property at a particular period of time in its history, while removing evidence of other periods.

Reconstruction re-creates vanished or non-surviving portions of a property for interpretive purposes.

Preservation focuses on the maintenance and repair of existing historic materials and retention of a property’s form as it has evolved over time.

Worksite Safety Tips – Focus Four

safety tips, trisco systemsJune is National Safety Month and provides us with the perfect opportunity to offer some worksite tips to keep your team and business safe from injury. For this piece, we will discuss the “Focus Four”, as well as another topic we feel strongly about: Distractions.

Distractions

It’s easy to be distracted on a job site, and it’s an easy way to get injured. Falling equipment and/or debris, stepping on debris in a walkway, or walking in front of a piece of moving equipment is a quick way for your workers to suffer an injury. In addition, cell phones, texting, iPods, and other distractions can interfere with worker’s awareness and focus. Being aware of your surroundings, watching where you are walking, keeping paths clear, and staying alert will keep workers injury free.

Trisco Tip: On Trisco jobsites, workers are prohibited from listening to portable music players, headphones, and boomboxes. This keeps the jobsite professional and focused.
